Even sports stars appreciate seeing their accomplishments captured in a custom-framed piece that not only preserves and protects, but also displays their memories in a highly personalized way.
The moment
Last year custom framer and sports photographer Mike Bennett of Lighthouse Imaging had an opportunity to do that for Notre Dame Alum and Pro football players Tim Brown and Jerome Bettis. Both Brown and Bettis were honored at a ceremony during a 2015 Notre Dame Football game for their induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Notre Dame Monogram Club director of student-athlete alumni relations and engagement Reggie Brooks asked Mike to create framed pieces that honor the two players’ accomplishments at Notre Dame and professionally. Mike has served as the Notre Dame Football team photographer for 34 years.
“Reggie told us he needed something really special,” said Mike. “We wanted to put together a design that used creative elements to capture everything that needed to be a part of the pieces.”
The design
The two frame packages feature each player’s Notre Dame Jersey and two photos from the players professional and college careers. The photos are mounted in each bottom corner on 1/4-inch Gatorboard® adhered to the Crescent (C4400) mat board.
In the center are two coins representing each side of a game coin in a laser-cut acrylic mount made of three pieces with gold stand-offs. Just above the game coins in gold type is an inscription honoring each player’s Hall of Fame induction mounted on a piece of Museum Glass® to appear as if it is floating. The entire framing package is glazed with a second piece of Museum Glass.
A single gold Larson Juhl Arcadia (80367) frame is lined with half-inch Gatorboard to support the additional piece of glass. All materials used, including adhesives, are archival quality.
Located in Mishawaka, Indiana, Lighthouse Imaging has been in business for thirty years. In addition to custom framing, Mike and Sue Bennett’s shop handles a wide variety of printing projects, including the Notre Dame Football calendar. Mike serves as the photographer for all 26 Notre Dame Sports.
