Kosal Eang of Framed by Kosal in Monroe, CT, thrives on creative challenges in custom framing. As a past Tru Vue® Custom Framing Competition Finalist, Kosal has won multiple Best In Show awards and has designed other innovative pieces for the Tru Vue booth at past WCAF Shows.
Known for taking framing design to unexpected levels, Kosal has crafted pieces featuring unusual mounting techniques, surprising materials, and even moving parts. Each year his customers are eager to see what he has submitted for the framing competition.
Whether or not he comes home with the top prize, Kosal sees value in participating in the Tru Vue Framing Competition for the freedom it gives him to be as creative as possible with framing materials. For example, one of his award-winning entries played with reflective materials along with the use of anti-reflective Museum Glass®.
“I like to push the boundaries of framing, and the Tru Vue Framing Competition allows me to experiment with new design ideas,” said Kosal. “Instead of building a frame just around a piece of art, the competition forces me to think about how to design with the glazing chosen for competition. The competition this year asked us to use Optium Musem Acrylic®, and it was fun to experiment and see what this product does for the framing.”
