A portion of Piraneseum’s collection of 19th century and earlier architectural mementos, including models, pictures and ornament. Front and center is a large, carved cork model of the Roman Colosseum, fashioned in Rome in the 1840s by Luigi Carotti. The model is installed in a Piraneseum-designed vitrine with an Optium Museum Acrylic cover. Above is a carved wood pilaster capital, designed in 1799 by Charles Bulfinch, the first American-born architect. This was originally part of the State House in Boston, before being replaced in the 1960s by a more maintenance-free likeness. The flanking angels, in carved wood and gilded, are south German baroque, fashioned in the later 17th century.
