The Challenge

To protect a peculiar circular work and original frame during exhibition while simultaneously providing a greater visual experience.

The Solution

Optium Museum Acrylic®

Suitable for frame packages
An outer frame was constructed, and Optium Museum Acrylic fitted, acting as a buffer to the external environment and limiting the potential for change to occur by sealing the painting and original frame within its own environment.

Anti-reflective
Allows viewers to see the works rather than their own reflections.

Acrylic is half the weight of glass and shatter resistant
Safeguards against injury and damage to art work and visitors.

Anti-static protection exceeds that of glass
Immediately eliminates static charge. Makes for safer, easier framing, and less cleaning.

Abrasion resistant
A durable hard coat extends the lives of the paintings with protection against scratches from cleaning and general exposure to the public.

99% UV blocking
Protects the art work from the most damaging light wavelengths, helping prevent fading and degradation, and allowing optimal lighting conditions for enhanced visibility.

The Work

‘Naturaleza muerta’ was created in 1942 by Frida Kahlo on copper using different paints and thick brushes of uniform size. The work features both cultural motifs and native foods inspired by the artifacts and nature of Mexico. Frida used popular art to explore sexual preferences and issues of gender identity in Mexican society. This Still Life was intended for the Los Pinos dining room in the presidential palace but was later returned.
