The Work
The 76 year old preacher, once court preacher of Prince Maurits, wears a skullcap and a tabard, a fur-lined cloak, clothing in which older scholars preferred to be portrayed. The hands, painted much flatter than the face, are perhaps the work of one of Rembrandt’s studio assistants’.
