The Challenge

  • To protect and showcase a collection of Korean ceramics while providing the best viewing experience possible in light weight, shatter resistant exhibit display cases.

The Solution

Optium Museum Acrylic® Display Cases

Anti-reflective
Allows viewers to see the ceramics rather than their own reflections.

99% UV blocking
Protects the ceramics from the most damaging light wavelengths, helping prevent fading and degradation.

Abrasion resistant
A durable hard coat protects against scratches from cleaning and general exposure to the public.

Acrylic is half the weight of glass and shatter resistant
Safeguards against injury and damage to ceramics and visitors.

Anti-static protection exceeds that of glass
Makes for safer, easier fabrication and less cleaning.

The Work

At the center of this state-of-the-art installation are the luminescent celadon ceramics of the Goryeo dynasty. These include a famed ewer in the shape of a lotus bud widely acknowledged to be the finest Korean ceramic in the Western hemisphere.
