How It Works

Not all UV-blocking technologies perform the same. Variations in design and manufacturing can greatly affect the level of protection, so understanding these differences is key to choosing the right glazing solution. The UV absorption method provides the highest protection, blocking up to 99% of UV rays by using absorbers as coatings, PVB layers between glass, or within acrylic substrates. In contrast, UV reflectance works by altering surface properties to reduce UV transmission, but its effectiveness can vary with light angles, leading to inconsistent results.

Tru Vue’s proprietary technology uses an inorganic silica-based coating that is permanently bonded to the glass, scattering and absorbing UV rays. Developed with conservators, these products allow light to pass at 380 nanometers—the point where the human eye begins to perceive light—ensuring accurate color and tone while meeting conservation standards.
