Gifts ideas for dad
Father’s Day is just around the corner on June 19th, and many family members are probably scrambling to find the perfect gift for Dad. News Flash: He has enough neckties.
For custom frame shops, the holiday opens up a great opportunity to satisfy the sports-loving fathers of the world. It’s the perfect time to promote your ability to turn sports jerseys and memorabilia into keepsakes through custom framing. Show off your ability to take dad’s favorite items out of the back of the closet and into a great display that he will love.
If you’ve framed any sports memorabilia in the past, now is the time to display it in your shop windows and use your social media accounts to share images that push this idea for Father’s Day gifts this year, or to plant a seed for the future.
Father’s day = unique opps
While Father’s Day may not be the retail bonanza that Mother’s Day annually is, it does offer unique opportunities for custom framing. For example, you can reach a pool of potential customers (dads) that may not normally step foot in a frame shop and expose them to the world of framing possibilities that you can provide. Because, when Pop sees how his favorite autographed baseball jersey looks when it’s been framed, he may come back himself to get his favorite bat framed next.
Recently, Haverstock Custom Framing in Bedford, Nova Scotia, had success along these lines and turned a hat trick with a customer.
On Facebook, the shop explained: “My customer brought me two autographed hockey jerseys to be framed as gifts for her husband – one for Christmas and one to be done in the new year … Her husband was so pleased with his gifts that a third autographed jersey was dropped off to be framed when the second jersey shadow box was picked up.”
Father’s day framing – more than jerseys
While jerseys are a huge selling opportunity for sports-related framing, it’s not the only one. Many other kinds of sports souvenirs carry sentimental value and can also be framed or put into a shadow box.
Here is an example from The Frame Workshop in Appleton, Wisconsin. The tickets and program from the 2014 MLB All-Star Game capture the moment that a customer’s husband and son attended Derek Jeter’s last time as an All-Star (click here to read more about it). Now that the items have been placed in a custom frame with Conservation Clear® for UV protection it’s a memory built to last.
Also, remember that you can encourage customers to celebrate the athletic dad. Maybe he has an old jersey from his varsity days that his family wants to ensure it is protected from UV damage, remember to use Tru Vue® Conservation Grade Glazing. Or perhaps he has a race medal, like the one in this project that Artists Frame Service in Highland Park, Illinois, created for a marathon runner.
When it comes to hunting for Father’s Day gifts, many consumers may not have any clue about all of the sports possibilities offered by custom framing. But if you take the opportunity to educate, you just might have everyone and their father coming into your shop each June.
